The Fashion Advocate Runway
Melbourne’s most iconic attraction, Luna Park, will play host to a colourful and creative array of Australian made labels at The Fashion Advocate Runway on Saturday 11th March as part of the 2017 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.
Twelve independent labels from around the country have been handpicked by Claire Goldsworthy, the Editor of Melbourne based fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog, The Fashion Advocate, to encapsulate the Australian fashion landscape. Each label possesses its own unique aesthetic, yet all are bound together by their one similarity: each and every piece within their collections is 100 per cent Australian made.
As the Editor of The Fashion Advocate and Founder of The Dress Collective, Claire has dedicated her career to ensuring a positive future for Australian fashion design.
“I am inspired by the plethora of talent that surrounds me locally. I have always had a conscious mind when it comes to fashion and consumption, but since launching both my blog and my online store in 2015, it’s what I dedicate every day to. It’s just not good enough to accept unethical fashion any more. Fast fashion is destroying the earth and impacting humanity, and I’m on a mission to change that.”
168 million children are forced into labour exploitation in third world countries every year at the helm of fast fashion, and millions of garment workers are paid wages so low that they’ll never escape poverty. By supporting Australian made fashion, the positive effects extend far beyond the Australian shoreline; locally manufactured and ethically conscious Australian labels relieve the pressure on the offshore fast fashion system, and in turn, dramatically reduce the damaging impacts on the environment and humanity.
Highlighting this issue and promoting positive change, The Fashion Advocate Runway will showcase the remarkable talent that exists on a local level, and it will educate consumers on the power and influence of their own fashion habits. Bringing together independent labels from around Australia to showcase the cool, the quirky and the quintessential look of Australian fashion, The Fashion Advocate Runway is set to be a highlight of the 2017 Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival program.
