As Melbournians become more adventurous with their eating, they have also become more willing to explore beyond the confines of the Melbourne CBD! With that said, we decided to explore the quiet back streets of Preston in search of Eat Cannoli. A quiet neighbourhood eatery that has grown a cult following.

Cannoli’s you say, that’s right, C A N N O L I S !

These delicious Italian pastries have been re-imagined to capture the stomachs of foodies across Melbourne. Nestled on a leafy suburban street in Preston, Eat Cannoli is a place you will want to discover. Offering coffee, paninos, Italian inspired take away meals and cannoli.

This neighbourhood eatery is just that, neighbourhood focused with many of its ingredients coming from the local community. Giving the Eat Cannoli’s range a unique flavour that can’t be found at any old cannoli bar. Walking in you can smell the fresh scent of fresh baked goodies, paninos and of course cannoli’s. Talking with Dom, the friendly proprietor of Eat Cannoli, you can hear the passion he has for creating simple and tasty food that speaks to his own Italian background. Everything made with love, tradition and a little new school flare!

We started simply with a couple of paninos, the Mortadella and Meatball to be exact. These fresh made panino are kept simple and tasty, the Mortadella Panino featured homemade mortadella, Fior fi Latte, pickled onion & rocket. The homemade mortadella had an amazing flavour that made each bite uniquely delicious. This was not to be out done by the Meatball Panino a classic paring of beef & ricotta meatballs slow cooked in sugo with mozzarella & rocket, again good to the last bite. Both leaving us wanting more.

But that was only the starter!

Round two was all cannoli… With an array of fresh, crisp cannoli shells to draw you in, all you need to do is choose your flavour. From ricotta, vanilla or chocolate, don’t be deterred. While these flavours are more traditional, each has their own unique take like Vanilla, made in a crème brûlée style with sugar torched ends creating the perfect cracking bite. But if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, we suggest Darth!  Starting with a charcoal infused shell and piped with an orange and coconut panna cotta. Sounds odd but seriously good and should not be missed.

We tasted the rainbow, so to speak, and got one of everything and then some…

Here’s the rundown

Ricotta Ricotta, Choc Chips, Orange & Hive Honey

Just Amazing

Vanilla Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée

Chocolate Italian Chocolate Crema

Our Fave!!

Darth Orange & Coconut Panna Cotta Infused with Charcoal

Looks can be deceivingly delicious

Lemon Cheesecake NYC Style Cheesecake

Red Velvet Red Velvet Cake

Not done there we decided to get the Pipe Your Pack too, what is it you ask? 10 Cannoli Shells & your choice of what filling you want and some icing sugar for a little pizzazz. We went traditional and took home the Ricotta. This is great if want to eat them later, have a fun dessert your guests can get involved with or if you just want to be suave and pipe your own cannoli like a pro…and pretend you did it all yourself.

And if all this wasn’t good enough as it is, for all you gluten intolerant folk out there, everything is gluten free!

Team all of that with a fresh coffee this is a perfect place to find yourself looking for something new, Eat Cannoli should be added to the list. Packed full of simple flavours that really hit home from their baked treats, paninos, take home meals and of course cannoli. Whether you’re stopping in for a coffee, a bite to eat, or just picking up some freshly made cannoli for the journey home or after dinner treat, you won’t be disappointed.
