When the daily chaos of Chapel street gets a little too much, finding a little hide away to escape the grind can be a blessing. One of those little blessings is Head Honcho. Located just off Chapel street near Prahran Square, the welcoming smell of toasties, freshly brewed coffee and bright smiles behind the counter are the perfect fix for your toastie and coffee needs.

But what can you really do to a toastie to make it any better? Well, the guys at Head Honcho’s are putting their own twist on the fillings. Intrigued by the variety and boldness of the menu, our mouths were already watering. And did we mention that their menu is solely vegetarian and vegan.  Holding back from ordering one of everything, we opted to try The Greenhorn, The Sergio and The Vaquero.

What did we think…?

Our taste buds were ready to venture out, so we got stuck into The Vaquero with black beans, avocado, smoked scamorza, jalapenos, red onion, tomato puree & crunchy spiced corn. Every bite was full of new flavours from all the fillings. Was it the avocado and smoked scamorza, or the crunchy spiced corn or even the jalapenos that had us devouring this toastie in record time!

With our mouths still watering we dug straight into The Sergio a delightful combo of mozzarella, bocconcini, tomato, cheddar, garlic, tomato puree and oregano. This mix of fillings creates an explosion of flavour that leaves you feeling satisfied and wanting to come back for more.

If you’re one for a classic cheese toastie, The Greenhorn is for you! With a blend of mozzarella, cheddar and swiss gruyere, it is perfect in its simplicity and offers a little something extra to such a classic.

Head Honcho is a community first cafe, which means they are doing everything they can to source ethical and sustainable products. They’re paving the way to enact change and hold themselves accountable by working with suppliers who all strive to use business as a force for change.

If you’re in the Prahran area, this place will soon become your regular.
