Step into Talk Shop at Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney, a fresh café, bar and social hub.  Nestled in Haymarket’s vibrant cultural heart, Talk Shop positions itself as more than a dining venue; it’s a daily gathering place that fuses food, art, and conversation that isn’t limited to hotel guests, it’s open to the wider community to be a part of. You can expect to listen to live DJs, play Mah Jong and enjoy delicious ice-teas (spikebale of course!).

Yammi Cheung, Head Chef at Caption by Hyatt brings over eleven years of culinary expertise from top establishments including Pullman, Rosewood Hong Kong, and the American Club Hong Kong . Specialising in Western cuisine with an Asian twist, Yammi’s ‘Healthy vs Indulgent’ philosophy honours both taste and wellbeing through locally sourced produce, while celebrating the neighbourhood’s diverse palate.

Begin with light snacks including grilled sourdough, loaded fries, marinated olives, mortadella and prawn crackers.

A “Burgers & Bowls” menu, signature dishes include the Double-Down Burger, Krapow Burger, Me So Salmon Bowl, Plain Gainz Bowl. The menu design doesn’t force trade-offs between flavour and sustainability; the burgers may be mini, however there is nothing small about the level of satisfaction with every bite!

Immersed in Haymarket’s culture, the dessert showcase centers on Hong Kong Egg Waffles crowned with vanilla and matcha ice cream, drizzled with chocolate, and plated for a decorative effect.

Chris Yee’s art around Talk Shop translates Haymarket’s street culture into a welcoming interior language, turning a cafe stop into a cultural experience. By layering local storytelling into the space, the venue becomes a reminder of the neighbourhood’s history and ongoing creativity, not just a backdrop for meals. Not only in Talk Shop itself, part of Yee’s mural is also in every hotel room at Caption By Hyatt Central Sydney.

The emphasis on upcycled custom-made furnishings, local produce, and zero-waste initiatives places Caption by Hyatt Central Sydney within a growing movement toward responsible accommodation and hospitality. Talk Shop sets a benchmark for what a modern urban hospitality space can be; one that serves as a social anchor as much as a place to eat.

Talk Shop is open from 6:30am weekdays and 7am on weekends, for lunch and dinner til late. Enjoy coffee beans from Headlands beans, delicious lunch and dinner using a flexible QR based ordering system that welcomes solo diners, remote diners and groups of friends throughout the day and evening.
