In our humble opinion people travel for a few reasons; to see the sights, to visit friends/relatives, have adventure, celebrate, or to simply relax. For us, our goal is simple – relax and eat as much as humanly possible. But with so many options available to both locally and internationally where do you go?
After much debate we settled on Thailand, an idyllic beach locale that is home to amazing beaches, people and of course food!
Thailand, a frequent beach destination with a relative smorgasbord – excuse the pun – of resorts to choose from, but with so many choices how do you know which one is right for you? Ironically planning a beach holiday can be stressful! Finding the right resort with everything you want and need so you can move as little as possible is the dream, because nothing is more disappointing then planning a holiday and coming home still stressed and more tired than before.
So, what was the proverbial glass slipper you ask? Movenpick Myth Patong, located in the heart of Phuket, you find yourself in a world away, transported to a throwback of lavish extravagance, style and elegance that will cater to all your needs. A mere 10-minute walk from the hustle of Phuket’s bars, restaurants, markets and beaches, this was the perfect spot.
The Myth a relatively new additional to the Phuket resort scene is an ode to its history with its architecture harnessing the beauty of times past while still incorporating a modern feel. When staying at the Myth you will find yourself with a few options for your stay, we choose to indulge pool side with a Pool Access Room. Set out with an impressively comfortable King bed, a day bed by the window, rain shower, spa and all the other little things you would expect. The room then opens out to your private jacuzzi flowing into the pool. If you have the choice, go with the pool access room you won’t regret it and with a swim up bar you’ll never have to leave the pool.
And if you find yourself not wanting to leave the hotel but are still looking to get a pamper session in, the Avida Spa is at your service with a range of treatments that will leave you feeling relaxed and if you’re anything like us half asleep. We of course opted for a massage and you guessed it we were asleep on the table it was that relaxing, our advice, just try not to snore.
But at the end of the day what can make or break a hotel is one simple thing, the food… it has the ability to make a great hotel, seem second best if the food is not up to scratch!
Having the opportunity to indulge in the food and buffet breakfasts on offer, we were anything short of hungry. From the moment we woke up and made our way down for breakfast we were greeted with hot coffee and a literal buffet to choose from the traditional staples to local delicacies, we sampled a little of everything to our hearts desire. But there was one jewel in its crown that stood out for us, not satisfied with just offering honey to its guests, the Myth offered up a honeycomb from which you could cut a chunk off to eat, spread, mix or whatever your breakfast heart desired. It is safe to say we ate more honey in these few days then we had in the last year.
When not at the pool or lazing about in the room we could be found eating at Atrio – the Myth offers a buffet breakfast, and for lunch and dinner an extensive a la cart menu. From traditional Thai, Indian, to western and middle eastern there is something that will cater to everyone’s tastes. And having ate the menu, yes – we did that, we can tell you with certainty that its worth eating at Atrio. And if you’re looking for a little recommendation try the Charcoal Gai Satay, Shish Tawook, Onion Bhaji, the Myth Burger and the Pad Thai of course.
No matter which room you choose, treatment you get, or copious amounts of food you eat there is a level of care and service that the Movenpick offers that goes beyond the standard. Wanting to cater to all your needs even those you haven’t thought of yet, the team want to make sure your visit is beyond exceptional. For us this began from the time we landed and took our first steps into Phuket. This continued through our stay from the little touches of remembering our morning coffees to overhearing us talk about an anniversary we happened to be celebrating on this particular visit and subsequently helping us celebrate with a few sweet treats and beautifully decorating our room upon our return. Team this with friendly smiles and a happy approach to everything they do, their level of service and care was above and beyond!
All said and done, we were more than relaxed by the end of our stay. And if your list is anything like ours a resort must include a spa, swim up bar, buffet breakfast, room service, great food and five-star service, then Movenpick Myth Hotel Patong is definitely for you.
