Beer garden extension with kids’ play area & new atrium style dining hub ‘The Pavilion’
The iconic Auburn Hotel has been at the heart of the Hawthorn community for 135 years. Today, the pub fully reopens after a .3 million project to create an extended beer garden with kids play area and to convert a neighbouring site into a new atrium style drinking and dining hub ‘The Pavilion’.
The multi-million dollar expansion provides the local community with new indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy food, drinks and good times.
Once home to horse stables and then a motorworks garage, the neighbouring site has been transformed into a contemporary atrium-style dining and drinking area, coined ‘The Pavilion’. The brand new area balances the history of the location with modern finishes featuring a retractable roof, striking fireplace centrepiece and a state-of the-art pizza oven.
An extended deck now provides a seamless indoor and outdoor dining area with adjoining beer garden and new kids playground, making it the ultimate year-round socialising area.
The well-known institution in Hawthorn will now also offer a refreshed and approachable menu, curated by Executive Chef Tony Moss. Share dishes like Burrata with sweet & sour tomato jam and Mushroom Arancini with truffle mayo and pecorino will appear next to a range of Woodfire Pizzas such as the Pumpkin with honey, ricotta, roasted garlic, the Porcini Mushroom with truffle, smoked mozzarella and radicchio and the Sopressa with tomato, mozzarella and chilli. There is also a full list of comforting pub classics including a Lamb Pie with buttered mash, green beans, red wine jus and Roasted Pork Belly with apple sauce and bacon jus.
The pubs transformation has also accommodated its loyal sport lovers with ample big-screen TVs in both the beer garden and The Pavilion, meaning live and loud sport will also be on the weekly line-up.
The Auburn Hotel Venue Manager Scott Matthews is thrilled that the new areas of the pub have opened for locals to enjoy.

A series of weekly specials and events is sure to keep locals happy, whatever the day of the week:
- Mondays, 12-9pm: $20 mains
- Any main including parmas, burgers roast chicken and lamb pie
- Tuesdays from 7pm: Trivia
- Wednesdays from 5pm: Parma night
- Chicken parma ($30) or vegan parma ($28) with chips & salad and pint of beer or glass of house wine
- $1 from every Parma sold will be donated to Koala Kids through The Auburn’s ongoing Local Heroes charity partnership program
- Thursdays from 5pm: Steak night, live music, meat raffle
- 250g porterhouse steak served with red wine jus, house salad and skin on fries, $25
- Happy Hour, 4-6pm. $10 pints of Furphy lager and ale, $7 all house spirits, $7 all Edge of the World wines
- Meat raffle with meat tray worth $250, tickets $5 or 5 for $20 with all proceeds going to Koala Kids – tickets available from 12pm and raffle drawn at 6pm
