We often think that the CBD is the only place to find good food but let us tell you there is a whole wide world out there that is full of deliciousness to be explored. On a recent adventure we headed out to Deer Park to try Saigon Pho.

Saigon Pho Derrimut a new Vietnamese style restaurant nestled in the suburban jungle of Deer Park is home to contemporary style Vietnamese with a modern twist. A cuisine known for its herbs and freshness Saigon Pho did not fall short of this but also managed to bring new flavours to old favourites.

Not knowing where to begin we decided to try a range of small plates and with so much choice it was hard to only choose a few, deciding on the Saigon style fried spring rolls, the lemongrass beef rice paper rolls, grilled pork skewers and of course grilled chicken bao. Teaming that with their lemongrass peach iced lemon tea we were set for a great night.

The iced tea was refreshing and complimented the food nicely, a definite recommendation for any visit. The rice paper rolls were fresh and offered a great flavour that come through the freshness of the ingredients. And always being on the hunt for the perfect spring roll, these had a great crunch on the outside and flavour on the inside – a worthy contender. The bao had that perfect balance between bao bun, grilled chicken and spice, with the pork skewers being beautifully grilled and flavoured for a great bite.

Freshness was a common theme throughout all the dishes we tried, and this continued through to the larger plates of sizzling lemongrass prawns, Saigon special fried rice and of course the sizzling pancake.

Their sizzling pancake is a must try, chalk full of prawns, pork, green beans and veggies but be warned – this one can be messy but it’s all part of the fun! And if you’re a fan of fried rice the Saigon special was a great take on the traditional with Saigon Pho giving it their own twist that makes it really something special.

If you love Vietnamese food or simply just love to try good food, we recommend the trek out to Saigon Pho. Set amongst an industrial backdrop Saigon Pho really stands out and is sure to become a local favourite!
