With Melbourne continuing to open-up we are starting to see a welcome expansion beyond the city limits, with more and more new restaurants opening-up each day. One of these places is, Cotham Dining, nestled in the heart of Kew, Cotham Dining is home to fresh, simplistic, quality food with a cultural twist.
Headed by chefs Ayhan Erkoc and Federico Perez Lopez, the duo is bringing their influence from Turkey, Colombia, South America, and the Middle East. Cooking with wood fire, rotisserie grills and over charcoal to create a unique tasting experience for their diners.
The space has been freshly renovated and with the dining room bathed in natural light invites you right in. And with big smiles, you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. Seated by the window we found ourselves pouring over the extensive menu that made you feel like you want to order everything. Unfortunately, our stomach would not allow for such a feat, but by God we would try!
Starting small with the Beef Tartare, Harissa, Vegetable Crisps and Teleggio Tortellini, Mushrooms, Truffled Pumpkin Puree each surprising us with their flavour combinations. The harissa beef tartare was a particular favourite, the harissa giving this tartare a unique spin on the traditional favourite.
Wanting to delve further into this exciting menu we decided with a little help from our friendly waitress on the: Potato Gnocchi with Puttanesca, and the Slow Roast Lamb Shoulder, Date & Grain Salad, Labneh to share with a side of Grilled Broccoli with Candied Almond, Preserved Lemon, & Whipped Feta. While the gnocchi was light and fluffy, the lamb shoulder was the star here. The lamb fell apart to the touch and teamed with the date and grain salad added a perfect sweetness to an already amazing dish.
Stuff, but how could you not finish with a little dessert, of course you can’t, so we didn’t. Soldiering through we settled with the Middle Eastern Milk Pudding with Caramelised Kataifi, & Pistachio Ice Cream and Chocolate Mousse on a bed of Honeycomb, Diplomat Cream & Chocolate Sorbet. For us the Middle Eastern Milk Pudding was everything and if you have sacrifice not eating everything else to fit this in, you definitely, should. Because call we know but one, we stand by!
And if you, have it in you, we recommend enjoying Cotham Dining experience sipping on a glass of wine or cocktail from their extensive menu. The House Negroni a delectable combination of Poor Toms Strawberry Gin, Strawberry Gum Vermouth, & Native Amaro was our favourite of the night.
Taking culinary fusion to new heights, Cotham Dining, is a must for your next date night or catch up with your favourite foodie BFF. You won’t be disappointed and will definitely be back again just like we will, the Milk Pudding is to die for!
