If you’re looking for a destination cafe in Melbourne’s north, Friction is the place to go! Landing at Essendon Fields with a delicious menu for the whole family. What seems like a small cafe from the outside, quickly reveals itself to be the perfect place to bring friends and family for breakfast, lunch, or our personal favourite… brunch! With indoor and outdoor seating, you can escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a bounty of delicious bites to indulge in!

The beauty of brunch is that you aren’t bound by only the breakfast menu, because with so many good things to eat from that pesky lunch side, this menu had us drooling! It was hard to not let our stomachs do the talking, so we got to chatting with the friendly staff about their favourites and what was flying out the kitchen, and we were not disappointed.

Making sure to start the morning off right, we ordered a chocolate milkshake and Funky Monkey smoothie with banana, choc, peanut butter and almond milk – if you’re a lover of peanut butter, this one’s for you. Moving on to something a little savory, we opted for the Mr Benedict with hash browns, hollandaise, maple glazed bacon and eggs. Whilst there was no toast to soak up the hollandaise, the hash browns were a great alternative and gave a little something extra for the taste buds. Not done with the breakfast side of things just yet, we couldn’t pass up Waffles – with hazelnut chocolate, strawberries, strawberry gel, mixed nut soil, fairy floss and ice cream. If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll want to get into these waffles. The fluffy waffles paired perfectly with the crunchy nuts and was followed smoothly by the ice cream and fairy floss.

To balance out the sweetness overload, we ventured over to the lunch menu delving into the Southern Fried Chicken Tacos with charred corn, jalapenos, mix leaves, radish, tortilla, lime sriracha dressing and chips. Do not be fooled by the tacos, they are not an appetiser! To say they hit the spot is an understatement, the charred corn and jalapenos added a zing to every mouthful and complimented the southern fried chicken perfectly.

Not that our hunger wasn’t satisfied already but with a classic Steak Sandwich on the menu, we couldn’t help ourselves from ordering one. Scotch fillet, fried egg, lettuce, tomato, Spanish onion, ranch dressing and crispy chips. This dish was light and fresh, the scotch was juicy, and the ranch dressing was the highlight of the dish and made for a refreshing take on a classic.

Friction is a must visit if you’re in the area or looking for a new destination cafe. From the funky smoothies, classic coffee, mouthwatering and sizeable menu, Friction has something for the family or a catch up with the friends!
