HEARD By Chelsea Hard

Amongst the hustle and bustle of Bridge Road sits OTTO, an open and minimalistic space, home to great coffee and delicious food, so it was a must that we head in and enjoy a Saturday brunch session.

Walking in, the smell of fresh coffee is the first thing to hit the senses before being welcomed by the bright smiles of the staff, who make you instantly feel like a regular – even if it’s your first time. Once settled at our table and looking over the menu, the delicious options had us wanting to order the whole menu – and if we could, we would.

Settling in with a hot chocolate and Skinny Coconut Mango smoothie, we dived straight into the Scotch Egg – soft boiled egg, wrapped in chorizo and coated in breadcrumbs. As we cut into it, the yolk oozed out from the centre, coating the chorizo perfectly, making the perfect sauce.

With our hunger only magnified, we dove straight into the Croque Madame with apple slaw, and the Milanese. The apple in the slaw gave each of these dishes a fresh twist, that cut through the saltiness, giving it a perfect balance. The Milanese – wagyu scotch fillet with gribiche sauce and puffed wild rice, was thin and juicy. There was no shortage of the gribiche sauce, which paired perfectly with the crumbed scotch fillet. This is a definite to anyone wanting to indulge in a little something extra for brunch!

If you find you’re wanting something a little more traditional, the Hotcake is definitely the dish for you, but be warned it’s a little sweet – so those with a bit of a sweet tooth, this is for you. The butterscotch sauce drizzled over the slow cooked apple adds the perfect combination of sweetness to this fluffy hotcake. For us, the real hero of this dish is the ginger crumble that adds a small crunch and epic taste that compliments all the elements on the plate and brings it all together.

Not done there, we decided to expand our belly’s a little further with OTTO’s signature burger. The OTTO burger is perfect in its simplicity, offering delicious flavours with their OTTO special sauce and a thick, juicy wagyu beef patty, topping it off with a side of thick cut chips – if you like a juicy burger this is definitely worth a try.

As I said, we wanted to order the whole menu, it all tasted so good we couldn’t help ourselves from eating so much. It’s hard to choose a favourite, each dish had its own unique flavours which made them delicious and kept us going back for more

OTTO is sure to become the go to place in Richmond, and for those wanting to explore just outside the CBD, it’s the perfect location with a delicious menu that caters for the sweet and salty. If you’re not won over by the friendliness of the staff, the food surely will.
